Foundation

The CA Foundation Course is the first stage in becoming a Chartered Accountant. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) holds the CA exams twice a year, in May and November. 

 A student who wants to become a CA can register for the ICAI Foundation course during or after class 12th based on the eligibility criteria. They must, however, complete their class 12th with at least a 50%. 

 Accounting, business laws, mathematics, and economics will now be covered in the CA Foundation syllabus. The entire ICAI CA Foundation syllabus is broken down into four papers: 

 Paper 1: Accounting Principles and Practice 

 Paper 2: Business Laws, Business Reporting, and Business Correspondence 

 Paper 3: Statistics, Logical Reasoning and Business Mathematics 

 Paper 4: Knowledge of business and commerce as well as economics in business 

 You will have four months to study for these four CA Foundation subjects. 

In 2024, students must pay a total of Rs. 10900 for the CA Foundation course. This includes the registration fee of Rs. 9200, the exam form fee of Rs. 1500, and the optional Rs. 200 journal membership fee. It should be noted that the entire fee must be paid online.

Eligibility:

A student who has taken the Class 12th examination directed by an examining body established by law in India (or an examination recognised by the Central Government as equivalent to it) is eligible to sit for the CA Foundation Exam 2024. Once a registered student has qualified for the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2), they may appear in the Foundation Examination.   

A student registered for the Foundation Course must complete a minimum of four months of study to meet the CA Foundation Course Eligibility Criteria. Students who register by December 31, 2023, will be eligible to take the exam in May 2024.

1. What is the CA Foundation exam?

A national exam for the CA Foundation is given in  May/June and November/December. Candidates who want to become Chartered Accountants in India enroll in it. Previously, it was known as the CA Common Proficiency Test (CA CPT).  

The Chartered Accountancy profession in India is governed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), a statutory body founded on July 1, 1949. The ICAI is the second-largest Chartered Accountants professional organization in the world. Its main office is in New Delhi. 

2. What subjects are there in the CA Foundation Course?

CA Foundation offers four CA foundation subjects: 

  • Accounting Principles and Practices 
  • Business law, business correspondence, and business reporting 
  • Statistics, Logical Reasoning, and Business Mathematics 
  • Economics of Business and Commercial Knowledge

The first two papers are subjective, while the last two are objective. If you intend to prepare on your own, make a detailed study plan. Plan to cover the entire syllabus and set long-term and short-term goals in advance. Allow the final month for revision and try to complete as many mock papers as possible. 

3. What is the study duration for the CA Foundation course?

The ICAI exam provides you with mandatory preparation time between the time you register and the date of your examination. That preparation time is 4 months of study time. 

4. What are the passing criteria for the CA Foundation examinations 2024?

Candidates must obtain the minimum passing marks or higher. To pass the CA Foundation 2024 exam, you must have a minimum of 50 percent aggregate marks and individual 40 percent marks in each subject or 200 out of 400 points. 

5. How many times can I appear in the CA Foundation Exam?

Your registration is valid for three years, giving you a total of six attempts. After this time, you must renew your registration. 

6. What are the negative marking criteria in the CA foundation paper?

In objective papers, ¼ mark is deducted for each incorrect answer. 

7. Is coaching necessary for the CA foundation?

It is not mandatory. However, because this is a new course with little material available on the market, it is recommended that you attend the classes. 9. Can I apply for the CA foundation course after doing an MBA?

You are not required to participate in the CA foundation attempt. You can apply for the CA Intermediate Course directly.
