CA Intermediate Exam - Course Details,
Eligibility, Syllabus, And Fees

CA Intermediate is the second level of the Chartered Accountancy examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, the second largest accounting body in the world. The first stage of the Chartered Accountancy examination is the CA foundation course, and the final stage is the CA final course. According to ICAI, students who have cleared the CA foundation course are eligible to apply/ register for the CA Intermediate course. As a part of the CA intermediate course, the candidate is also required to register for 3 years of article-ship/ practical training. The study material for the CA intermediate exam consisting of questions for practice, revision test papers, mock test papers, question papers, and suggested answers are provided by the Board of Studies (BOS) of ICAI.   

 The CA intermediate course offered by GAPA in association with Nagindas Khandwala College of Commerce, Arts & Management studies (in Affiliation to the University of Mumbai) is designed to provide structured guidance to aspiring students as well as equip them with detailed knowledge about numerous aspects of the field of Finance and Accounting.

CA Intermediate Registration fees and others:

The total CA Intermediate fees are Rs. 20,700 for both groups and Rs. 14,500 for a single group. The fee for Foreign students appearing for the CA Intermediate exam is $1500 for both groups and $925 for a single group. The CA intermediate course registration fee covers the registration fees, student’s activity fees, registration fees as an article assistant, and the CPA exam form. According to ICAI, students residing in the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and the north-eastern states of India are provided with a 75% fee concession.

CA Intermediate Results:

Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) releases the CA Intermediate course result within two months (45 days) after the CA exam. CA intermediate course results are declared in the months of January/ February and July/ August for the examination conducted in November and May. According to the published data, the passing percentage of the CA intermediate exam for both groups ranges from 20% to 25%. To qualify for the CA intermediate exam, the candidate is expected to score a minimum of 40% marks in each individual CA Intermediate subject and 50% marks in aggregate, including all the CA Intermediate Subjects in both the subject groups or single group.

CA Intermediate Eligibility:

Candidates who have successfully cleared the CA Foundation level exam with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible for direct admission to the CA intermediate course. Commerce graduate or postgraduate students (with a minimum of 55% marks) and non-commerce graduate or postgraduate students (with a minimum of 60% marks) are eligible to register for the CA Intermediate exam. CS Executive examination or CMA Inter examination qualified candidates are also eligible to directly apply for the CA Intermediate course. According to the ICAI examination rule, CA Executive or CMA Inter qualified candidates are exempt from appearing for the CA foundation course. Candidates who have passed the Intermediate level exam conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India or the Institute of Cost Accountants of India can register for the exam. College students appearing for the final year examination of graduation are eligible for the CA intermediate exam under the provisional scheme.

1. What is the CA Intermediate exam?

The CA Inter or CA Intermediate is the second phase (level) of the Chartered Accountancy exam conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The CA intermediate syllabus consists of eight different subjects. The CA intermediate course offered by us aims to provide the students with in-depth knowledge of crucial aspects of Finance and Accounting. Registration for the CA CPT Exam begins 9 months before the exam. 

4. What is the eligibility for CA Intermediate?

Candidates who have acquired graduates or postgraduates degree in Commerce and attained a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate are in accordance with the CA intermediate eligibility criteria and can apply for the exam. Apart from that, candidates who have successfully qualified for the CA Foundation exam are also eligible to enroll for the CA intermediate examination conducted by ICAI. 

5. What is the time gap between CA Foundation and CA Intermediate?

After successfully appearing for the CA Foundation exam and receiving results within 2 months, the respective candidates can start their preparations for the next phase by enrolling in our CA intermediate course. Students get 9 months to prepare and register for the exam by submitting respective CA intermediate registration fees at the ICAI portal. 

6. How many subjects/papers are there in the CA Intermediate course?

CA intermediate exam constitutes 8 major subjects. These subjects are further distributed into two different groups. Group one CA intermediate papers consist of Accounting, corporate and other laws, cost and management accounting, and taxation. Group two ca intermediate subjects include advanced accounting, auditing and assurance, enterprise information systems and strategic management, financial management, and economics for finance. 7. Which group should be written first?

There are no prerequisites or CA intermediate eligibility criteria for the group. So, with groups, students have the authority to choose (or attempt) based on their confidence and CA intermediate course preparations. Students can write a single group at a time or attempt both based on preferences.

8. When are the CA Intermediate Results announced?

Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) releases the CA intermediate results for the CA Inter – December exam in the month of February and for the CA Inter –  July exam in the month of September, respectively.

9. When is the CA Intermediate examination held?

The CA Intermediate Group one and two exams are conducted twice a year by ICAI. The CA intermediate syllabus/ paper-wise exam schedule is set and released by ICAI. Either the CA intermediate is held in the month of November (sometimes December) or in the month of May (sometimes June).
